Investigators say foul play has been ruled out in connection with a fire at a Kitchener apartment building.
The fire occurred Monday morning in a fifth-floor apartment at 50 Mooregate Crescent. Caregivers of the woman in the apartment were able to put out the fire with blankets before firefighters arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy determined that the woman died of natural causes, and an investigatoion concluded that the fire was caused by a cigarette.
Damage to the highrise was minimal.
