Excessive speed, failure to stop at a stop sign and lack of seatbelt use are possible factors in a crash outside Caledonia that left two people dead.

Haldimand County OPP say they’re investigating all those factors in connection with the crash, which occurred early Monday morning at Highway 6 and Fifth Line.

It involved an eastbound pickup truck and southbound transport truck.

Both occupants of the pickup truck – which came to rest in a ditch – were pronounced dead at the scene.

They have since been identified as 29-year-old John Hill and 33-year-old Peter Bomberry, both residents of Six Nations.

The driver of the transport truck, a 30-year-old Six Nations man, remains in hospital with serious injuries.

According to police, the pickup truck was reported stolen last week from an address in Halton Region.
