A crash between a transport truck and a pickup truck has left two people dead and closed Highway 6 south of Caledonia for several hours.

Haldimand County OPP report that the crash happened around 2 a.m. Monday at the intersection with Fifth Line.

According to police, the eastbound pickup truck “broadsided” the transport truck, which was travelling southbound on Highway 6.

The pickup ended up in the ditch, with its driver and one passenger both pronounced dead at the scene.

Their identities have not been released.

Another passenger was taken to a Hamilton hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

The highway reopened around 10:30 a.m.
