A Waterloo school was put under hold and secure Thursday afternoon due to police action in the surrounding neighbourhood.

A hold-and-secure situation is a lower level of response than a lockdown. In a hold-and-secure, people can move about the building as usual, although nobody is able to enter or exit.

It was enacted around noon at St. David Catholic Secondary School.

Waterloo Regional Police say a home in the neighbourhood had been broken into, and one person was seen in the home’s driveway with what may have been a gun.

After it was determined that the multiple male suspects believed to be behind the break-in, the hold and secure was lifted.

Police say they’re still investigating and want to hear from anyone with information that could help them out.
