The North Dumfries Township Finance Committee was approved unanimously Monday night.
Five members of council will make up the committee, whereas before the treasurer and CAO were responsible for financial matters.
Councillor Rod Rolleman will be the committee chair and councillor Gord Taylor will be vice-chair.
The change means that the councillors will now make decisions and have a say with regards to financial issues.
They will also do assessments, reviews budgets and make recommendations before any decisions are approved.
