A family is devastated after their nine-year-old Alaskan malamute was taken from the backyard of their home in Woodstock.

Chip and Michelle Gall say their two dogs, Myla and Thunder, were placed in their outdoor kennel Saturday night.

“I was watching a movie in our bedroom and our window was open slightly and I could just hear muffled voices,” says Michelle Gall.

Michelle says she stopped to listen closely but didn’t hear anything else and just put it out of her mind, because she’s used to being able to hear noise from the street.

“Our street is kind of busy and we have lots of people who walk down the street all hours of the night,” she says.

Woodstock Police say someone did enter their Devonshire Avenue yard and take Thunder, sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Michelle says Thunder is very friendly and doesn’t bark at strangers, which is why the thief or thieves were able to make a quick getaway.

Chip Gall says when he realized Thunder was gone; he went to look out front and spotted a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot across the street.

“It had a big, dark dog cage in it,” explains Chip.

“I went to grab my shoes and run out just to see … but by the time I got outside the truck was gone.”

Const. Nikki VanLeeuwen with Woodstock Police Service says they are now searching for a newer grey Dodge Ram pickup truck.

In the meantime, the Gall family is spreading the word on social media hoping to have their four-legged friend safely returned.

“I’m hoping whoever has Thunder will bring him back, no questions asked,” says Michelle.

Woodstock Police are investigating and are asking anyone with information to contact them.
