The second week of the Waterloo Regional Police gun amnesty was roughly as successful as the first.

Police say their total now stands at 75 prohibited firearms turned over by citizens, after picking up 39 weapons during the first week of the amnesty.

In addition, police have seized 19 imitation or pellet guns, 10 prohibited non-firearm weapons and 3,453 round of ammunition.

The amnesty – during which police will not press charges relating to illegal possession or storage of the weapons – runs through the end of November.

Police say residents shouldn’t bring weapons in for inspection, but should call 519-653-7700 and make arrangements for officers to visit.
