Amateur and professional cake designers went slice to slice at the third annual cake competition in Kitchener.

The event was hosted by Too Nice to Slice and Icing Inspirations.

It drew entries from across the province.

Cake decorators could let their imaginations run wild with this year’s theme of two fairy tale characters getting married.

First time competitor April Julian took home two prizes for her creation. She nabbed the people’s choice award and then snagged first place in the hobbyist division. “This is my first time entering a cake contest so I was really, really happy.”

One of the scariest moments for cake decorators is transporting their cake to the competition then setting it up to be judged.

“We’re looking for technical skills,” says Chrissie Boon, of Too Nice to Slice and Icing Inspirations. “We’re looking to see how they interpret the theme and how they execute their design.”

Proceeds from the event will go to Nutrition for Learning. It’s an organization that makes sure no child goes to school hungry.
