KITCHENER -- Waterloo regional police are searching for a suspect following reports of gunfire near a Kitchener housing complex early Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to the scene at 90 Country Hill Dr. after receiving reports of multiple gunshots just before 1 a.m.
The shooting startled residents in the area.
"I woke up at 1 a.m. to the sound of gunshots," said Maia Frumhartz.
"I heard like three to four gunshots," Patricia Valdes said. "It sounded really close, so I got scared and I went out to my back corner to see if I could see anything, but I didn't see anything. I just heard the gunshots."
According to police, a dark-coloured vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officers were able to locate the vehicle a short distance away and spoke to the people inside, who said that someone shot their vehicle before running away from the area.
That person is described as a male who was wearing all black clothing, a face mask, and glasses.
Police say that they believe this was a targeted incident. No one was injured but several vehicles in the area was damaged by gunshots.
"It's not a good thing that it was targeted, but it's nice to know that we don't have to be concerned for public safety at large," resident Jessica Blondin said.
Police asked residents to stay inside their homes during the initial investigation, but later lifted that request.
Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious is asked to call police at 519-570-9777 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
