Police continue to work around the clock to solve the case of Kelsey Felker.
The torso of Felker, 24, was found in a dumpster outside a Kitchener apartment building on Saturday.
After the torso was identified as Felker’s on Tuesday, a flood of sorrowful and sympathetic comments began appearing on a Facebook page set up in Felker’s memory.
Friends say Felker was a good-natured, kind-hearted person.
A social worker tells CTV the Kitchener resident had been in a program for sex trade workers suffering from addictions.
Defence lawyer Brennan Smart, who represented Felker on drug charges, agrees that she had addiction issues and says he remembers her as troubled, but sweet and funny.
“She was quite personable. It was always sad dealing with her given the addiction issues and the things that came along with that,” he said.
The Frederick Street apartment building where Felker’s torso was found appeared to have been cleared by police Tuesday, when yellow police tape was taken down, but police returned to the property Wednesday.
Forensic technicians were present Wednesday to collect more potential evidence. Emergency officers were also seen entering the front of the building.
“We have a team of investigators from various branches continuing to work on this case,” said police spokesperson Olaf Heinzel.
“It remains a high priority.”
Police say DNA testing was instrumental in identifying the remains as Felker, who was only reported missing after the torso was discovered.
No other remains have been located.
Police continue to ask for tips from the public, seeking information about Felker’s whereabouts in the days leading up to her disappearance.
