A 24-year-old man is facing charges after driving while drunk across two Waterloo Regional highways on Friday.

At around 4 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police were informed about a black Volvo SUV that was in the area of Highway 7 and 8 and Montgomery Road in Kitchener.

Police said that the SUV was reported to be swerving, driving on the shoulder of the road and hitting the guardrail multiple times.

Police stopped the vehicle at around 4:15 p.m., in Waterloo. The SUV was going northbound on Highway 85 near University Avenue when the driver was pulled over.

The traffic stop caused the right lane and shoulder of the northbound highway to be blocked.

Police found multiple open alcohol containers inside the vehicle.

The driver is facing several provincial charges that police did not disclose.
