Waterloo Regional Police have arrested and charged a youth after a group of minors walked into a public school and assaulted a staff member.

Police said that on Thursday, a group of youths walked into a Kitchener public school wearing face masks. After a member of the faculty asked them to leave, one of the youth reportedly grabbed a fire extinguisher and sprayed them with it, before the group quickly left the school.

No one was hurt.

According to police, the same group of minors went to a plaza in the area of Westmount Road East and Laurentian Drive, where they began to yell racial slurs at other people. They also assaulted a business owner as they were stealing items from the store. The group then went to another business where they caused minor property damage.

Police arrested one youth from the group and charged them with multiple offences they did not disclose.

The investigation is ongoing and police are looking for the remaining youths involved.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 519-570-9777.
