Police say a man in his early twenties brandished a sword at a store employee during a robbery Friday afternoon.

The suspect entered Warriors Through Time, on Ainslie Street in Cambridge, and took the sword from a display inside the store, where he then demanded cash and merchandise, according to police.

“All of a sudden he goes ‘how much would you say is in your cash register hahaha’, and I said ‘oh I don’t know.’ He goes ‘no, how much is in your cash register’, and he put the sword up to my throat. He said if you don’t do anything stupid you walk out of here alive,” said Shawn MacGillivary, a store employee.

The suspect took approximately $100 in cash and nearly $500 in merchandise including a pocket knife, axe and a ‘battle-ready’ (meaning sharpened) sword.

Officers located the suspect, and he was arrested not far from the business.

“We definitely talked about how we’re going to handle the merchandise from now on, what limitations were putting on how much contact the customer has with the merchandise,” said MacGillivary.

He is facing multiple charges, including robbery.

No one was injured.
