One man was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital after a crash near Brantford that police are describing as serious.

The crash occurred just before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on Cockshutt Road, south of the city.

Brant County OPP say the crash involved a minivan and a tractor-trailer, and the driver of the van was trapped in his wrecked vehicle.

Fire officials and paramedics were able to free him from the vehicle, but he was airlifted to Hamilton with serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Brantford General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say Cockshutt Road will remain closed between Old Greenfield Road and County Road 18 into Wednesday evening as the crash is investigated.
