The number of suspicious fires in Six Nations continues to climb, after a fire early Saturday morning destroyed a house.

Fire Chief Matthew Miller says crews were called around 2:45 a.m. but as they headed to Mohawk Road, there were large traffic cones in the middle of the road, slowing the response.

“Fortunately it didn’t cause too much of a delay to our fire crews, but the trucks did have to stop, get out, move the cones and then proceed on to the fire,” Miller said.

When crews arrived the building was engulfed in flames. Fortunately no one lived in the house at the time. There were no injuries.

Firefighters wore GoPro cameras in an effort to gather more evidence.

“This was the first fire we utilized the GoPro cameras on and we've reviewed the footage and the footage has been forwarded on to Six Nations police as well as the office of the Ontario Fire Marshal,” said Miller.

While the chief can’t comment on if they have identified a suspect, he says significant progress has been made in their investigation with help from the police and Ontario Fire Marshal’s office.
