Service dog Jensen won’t be barred from a Kitchener elementary school after all.

Jensen made national headlines earlier this month, when it was revealed that he wouldn’t be allowed into St. Teresa Catholic Elementary School.

St. Teresa is attended by Jack Baldwin, who has autism and was recently approved for a service dog after a 2.5-year wait.

Baldwin’s mother, Donna, had asked for permission to bring Jensen into the school on occasion – when picking Jack up, or for school assemblies and similar events.

She had been told by the school’s principal that she couldn’t bring Jensen into the school.

That changed this week, Donna Baldwin told CTV News on Thursday, as an arrangement had been reached where Jensen could come into the school for “public access” – the sorts of situations she had been asking to bring him for.

The change doesn’t apply immediately. Baldwin says parents have to be notified about Jensen first – a process expected to take “weeks.”

Whether Jensen will eventually be able to accompany Jack Baldwin into his classroom is an issue that will be resolved at a later date, Baldwin said.
