A 47-year-old Kitchener woman is facing one charge of careless driving in relation to a crash that killed a 74-year-old St. Jacobs woman in August.

On the morning of Aug. 1, Doris Bast was crossing King Street in downtown St. Jacobs on her mobility scooter.

Crossing away from a nearby crosswalk at Cedar Street, Bast was hit by a car. She fell to the ground, hitting her head on the pavement. She was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital with sever injuries, and died a few hours later. The cause of death was determined to be head trauma.

The driver of the car, Barbara Hasner-Hiuser, was charged Thursday with carless driving. She is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 7.
