Two major roads in Waterloo Region will be closed for at least part of next week – but for once, light rail transit construction isn’t the culprit.

At 7 a.m. Tuesday, a stretch of Westmount Road will close in north Waterloo for road resurfacing.

Between Columbia Street and the Westmount Road/Northfield Drive intersection, it will remain closed until 7 p.m. Wednesday.

In Cambridge, Eagle Street will close Tuesday morning between King and William streets for utility work. That closure is expected to last until Sept. 21.

The region’s recommended detour for drivers who would normally use Eagle is along King, Coronation Boulevard, Hespeler Road, Maple Grove Road and Fountain Street.

As for road closures related to LRT construction, Wilson Avenue reopened this week between Fairway Road and Kingsway Drive, while King Street has reopened between Union and Wellington streets.

Other major roads closed for the Ion project are expected to reopen later this month, including Victoria Street through downtown Kitchener and the intersection of Erb and Caroline streets in uptown Waterloo.
