A controversial intersection outside Guelph will be redesigned this year, the Ministry of Transportation says.

Concerns had been raised about the corner of Highway 7 and Wellington Road 29 after a train and tractor-trailer crashed at the site in January.

The tractor-trailer was stopped on train tracks near the intersection at the time, despite signs warning against that behaviour – because the 62 feet between the stop line and the tracks isn’t large enough to fit a cab and trailer.

Among those calling for a review of the intersection was Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott, who raised the issue at Queen’s Park.

Monday night, the Ministry of Transportation told CTV News that is has found a way to increase the amount of space between the train tracks and the stop line to fit a tractor-trailer.

“That work will take place this spring, as soon as the weather permits,” the ministry said in a statement.
