One man is in custody as police investigate a homicide in southeast Guelph.

Few details have been released about exactly what brought police to the Village by the Arboretum around noon on Tuesday.

At one point in the afternoon, a police forensics van was seen entering the gated community off Stone Road East.

The van left the area around 5 p.m.

Police said shortly before 6 p.m. that one man was in custody, facing a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of his spouse.

The man will appear in court Wednesday morning for a bail hearing, they said.

Neither his name nor any other details about the person found dead have been released publicly.

The Village by the Arboretum’s website bills the area as “an active adult community” comprised of 497 houses and townhouses.

Police say there is no risk to public safety, and they want to hear from anyone with information about the case.
