A Brant County firearms retailer has been hit by unusual criminal activity twice in the past year – but police aren’t aware of any link between the cases.

“We have nothing to say that the two investigations are tied together,” OPP Const. Ken Johnston told CTV News on Monday.

Over the weekend, a truck was driven into the front of Triggers & Bows. Its tires caught fire, and the flames soon spread to the building itself.

Last October – when the business was located on Colborne Street, about a kilometre from its current home on Bishopsgate Road near Burford – somebody broke into the store and made off with a number of weapons.

In that case, a truck was used to pull down a security gate.

According to police, the truck used in the weekend arson case was stolen.

Surveillance footage shows the truck ramming into the building, but provides little detail of its passengers.

“We, at this point, believe that it is two people that are involved in this crime,” Johnston said.

Police are also seeking a second vehicle, which they believe came on the scene later and drove the truck driver away.

The truck driver never actually entered the building, police say, and nothing was stolen.

Word of the crime is being met with disbelief by some Burford residents.

“We’re in a small country town. This is ridiculous,” Gail Ross said.

“That is just absolutely ludicrous, that anybody in this area would even do something like that.”

Triggers & Bows remained closed Monday. A message on its website says it will reopen by the end of the week.
