A 72-year-old man was airlifted to hospital Thursday morning, after a serious crash near Hampstead.

Perth County OPP were called to a two vehicle crash on Perth Road 107, north of Line 47, around 7:15 a.m.

Police say a silver pick-up truck crossed the centre line and sideswiped a tractor trailer loaded with corn.

The impact caused the pick-up to roll into the west ditch.

The tractor trailer went into the opposite ditch where it tipped over onto its side, spilling its load.

Emergency crews had to extricate the driver of the pick-up, a 72-year-old man from the Municipality of Brockton. He was taken by air ambulance to a hospital in Hamilton.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 51-year-old man from East Zorra Township, wasn’t hurt.

Perth Road 107, between Line 47 and Line 56, was closed until late Thursday afternoon as police investigated the cause of the crash.
