One of the busiest years in recent memory for the residential real estate market continued in June, with 552 properties changing hands in Kitchener and Waterloo.

That’s an increase of 11 per cent over June 2014 – and the most transactions in that month since 2009.

“The housing market in Kitchener-Waterloo continues to show strength,” Kitchener-Waterloo Association of Realtors president Mark Wolle said in a press release.

“Buyers have confidence in Waterloo Region, that combined with low mortgage and interest rates should continue to support home sales in 2015.”

According to statistics provided by KWAR, the median value of a home sold in June sat at $315,000.

So far this year, a total of 2,621 homes have been purchased in the two cities – about 200 more than had changed hands at the midway point of 2014.

When factoring in the townships of Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich, 626 residential properties were sold in June – up from 572 in June 2014.

Detached homes made up the bulk of the sales, with 407 recorded. There were 137 condo sales, while 42 semi-detached units and 35 freehold townhomes changed hands.

Year-to-date, 2,949 home sales have been completed in the wider area.
