By early next month, Waterloo Region’s public high school teachers will be in a legal strike position.
According to the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation, word of an impending ‘no board’ report came down Monday afternoon.
Under Ontario labour law, that means that within 17 days of receiving the report, members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation can strike.
If the report is received Wednesday, the union would be in a legal strike position by May 2.
The Waterloo Region chapter of OSSTF has previously said any lockout would be accompanied by an extra five days’ notice.
The no board report also allows for a lockout to occur, although a Waterloo Region District School Board representative said Monday that there were no plans for that to happen.
“At this point in time, the board is not planning on taking sanctions,” Marty Deacon said.
Provincially, the union has threatened to withdraw services at seven public school boards, including Waterloo Region’s.
