Accidents at separate construction sites in Kitchener, Ont. have sent two workers to hospital with injuries.

Emergency crews responded to a call at a condominium project at 539 Belmont Avenue West around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A construction worker on the third floor was knocked unconscious after he was struck by a swinging bin being moved into place by an overhead crane.

Truck driver Edgar Hodges says "A guy just come down and he said one of the workers got hurt up there, got hit by something."

It took over an hour and a half for emergency responders to remove the 41-year-old London, Ont. man from the work site, as access was difficult.

Kitchener Fire Platoon Chief Greg Willett "It did take awhile, logistically because of the condition of the building, under construction, it wasn't easy just to carry him down by the stairs."

The worker had to be strapped to a ladder and lowered to the ground, but had regained consciousness before being moved.

Willet says "We had three stations here, we wanted to make sure we had enough people here because we had to manually lift the person on and off the ladder and just to make sure with the rigging of ropes to make sure everything was done safely."

Meanwhile work at the site was slowed, Hodges says "We've been delayed here, we can't get unloaded until they get done their investigation."

The Ministry of Labour was on site to investigate and orders have been issued to protect the safety of workers. Another investigation was launched and the same order issued at the location of a second incident.

Earlier Tuesday morning a man working on the roof a new home under construction on South Creek Drive in southwest Kitchener fell nearly 8 metres.

The 39-year-old Kitchener man was taken Grand River Hospital with serious internal injuries.
