Workers at the Toyota auto plant in Cambridge now know what they’ll be making after Corolla production shifts to Mexico.

Toyota announced Tuesday that the RAV4 sport utility vehicle will be manufactured in Cambridge starting in 2019.

The company’s Woodstock plant will continue to produce RAV4 vehicles.

“RAV4 is a leader in the fastest growing segment of the North American auto industry,” said Jim Lentz, the CEO of Toyota Motor North America, in a press release.

“We forecast that the segment will continue to demonstrate strong growth with the RAV4 being a major player.”

In July, Toyota announced plans to spend $421 million on improving its manufacturing facilities in southern Ontario.

The provincial and federal governments are putting up about $100 million of that total.

The Lexus RX will continue to be produced out of Cambridge as well.

Between its manufacturing plants in Cambridge and Woodstock, Toyota employs 8,000 people.
