Officials in Hamilton continue to investigate a dog attack in the city’s north end.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene of the attack, although autopsy results showed that the dog did not directly cause his death.
The city’s coroner told CTV News that an exact cause of death likely will not be determined for several months.
According to Hamilton Police, the man – who has not been publicly identified – and another man were walking the dog on Burton Street late Wednesday night when it suddenly turned on one of the men.
Friday, city officials released a photo of the dog in the hope it might help them track down its owner.
"The dog remains in quarantine and Hamilton Animal Services' priority at the moment is to determine the identity of the owner," city spokesperson Ann Lamanes said in an email. "We are following up on several leads."
The dog, a Shar Pei-Fila Brasileiro mix, was said to be in “fairly good shape.”
A decision on whether to euthanize it has not been made, Lamanes said.
