The Ontario Hockey League’s Brantford Bulldogs are being sold to Zach Hyman, an Edmonton Oilers player, and his family, according to a TSN hockey insider.

In a social media post Friday, Darren Dreger said the sale is pending OHL approval, with an official announcement expected on Monday.

Hyman played for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2015 to 2021. After that, he signed a deal with the Oilers.

Michael Andlauer, who also owns the NHL’s Ottawa Senators, bought the Bulldogs in 2015 when they were known as the Belleville Bulls.

The team moved to Hamilton, and then to Brantford in 2023.

Last fall, Brantford’s special committee of the whole approved the development of a new $140 million arena for the Bulldogs.

City councillors and residents were excited at the prospect of their own OHL team.

“I see this as a way to save Brantford, not [to have the] same Brantford,” one delegate said.

It is unclear if the team will stay in Brantford after it is sold.

CTV Kitchener reached out to the Bulldogs.

“Unfortunately at this time, the team has no comment on what has been put out,” said a spokesperson for the Bulldogs.
