A man is dead after a single motor vehicle crash in Mapleton Township, east of Listowel.
Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police say just before midnight on Friday, they were called to a collision at Concession 3 and Wellington Road 10.
“It looks like the car lost control and it was going sideways,” said Bev Grove, who lives nearby the scene.
“We figure it rolled,” said Grove.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
Names will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
“It sounded like a scuff on the road, right?, and we've had a lot of vehicles go through our stop sign, and this one just makes a different noise," said Jeff Bell, who tried to help the victims.
He says he heard a woman screaming for help a small distance from the accident.
"I was there, I found the fella and then I was able to flag down some other people to help me watch the girl and basically that's all we could do," said Bell.
OPP are still investigating the cause and have not commented on neighbours’ claims that the vehicle drove past a stop sign.
