Police continue to try and piece together just whose torso ended up in a garbage bin outside a Kitchener apartment building over the weekend.
"The canvas of the neighbourhood continues," said Insp. Kevin Thaler.
"At this point, every lead that we get we follow up vigorously."
Police found the torso in a garbage bin Saturday outside an apartment complex near Frederick Street and Gordon Avenue.
The torso was found in a black T-shirt with the words ‘Forget princess, I want to be a vampire’ printed on the front.
Police say the body belongs to a Caucasian woman whose age has yet to be determined.
No other body parts have been discovered in the area. Police say they are looking into local cases of missing people and also in contact with police from other areas.
Thaler says tips from the public may be more crucial than usual in this case because of the lack of available information with which to identify the victim.
Jennifer Playfair has already provided police with a tip. She lives in the building where the torso was found, and says about seven hours before it was discovered, she heard a loud noise coming from near the dumpster.
"It was really, really loud, almost like somebody could have kicked it real hard or something," she said.
More than 25 police officers are working on the case, including homicide detectives and forensic investigators. Other officers are combing through missing person files, looking for any who may fit the little bit of information that is known about the victim.
An autopsy took place Monday in Hamilton, but results were not immediately available.
