One person is dead following an industrial accident at a workplace in Guelph's north end.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the Polycon Industries auto parts plant, at the corner of Elmira Road and Independence Place, late Thursday morning.

A 22-year-old Cambridge man later died of injuries received in the incident.

Police say he was the only victim. His identity has yet to be released.

A spokesperson for Magna International, which owns Polycon, tells CTV News the victim was working for a construction company doing work at the site.

According to the Ministry of Labour, which is now investigating the case, the man was in the midst of installing a steel plate when it somehow came loose and fell on top of the man.
