As a result of mild temperatures and a possible 15 mm of rain, the Grand River Conservation Authority is issuing a Flood Warning for New Hamburg and Ayr.

The GRCA says flows could peak on the Nith River near New Hamburg late Saturday morning and Ayr late Saturday night. Residents in the Milton Street and Jacob Street areas in New Hamburg, and Tannery and Piper Streets in Ayr are most at risk of flooding.

Much of the snow and ice has melted in the southern half of the local watershed, but the upper watershed still has significant amounts of snow that will continue to melt with the spring thaw. With water levels increasing, some reservoir discharges are also being increased to control the rate of rise.

The GRCA warns the public to stay a safe distance from water courses and off any remaining frozen water bodies.
