Crews from the Wilmot fire department are still at the scene of a fire that erupted at the EuroCan Pet Products plant in New Hamburg, Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews say the fire started around 2 o'clock in the rear of the plant on Victoria Street.
Firefighters had a difficult time getting to the source of the fire, and getting it extinguished.
Police say thick smoke in the building added to the difficulty.
The company manufactures dog treats.
According to an employee who arrived at the scene, no one was working in the plant at the time and the ovens are only run when the plant is empty.
There are a few other businesses that rent units in the building, but an employee from one of those says he doesn't believe any of their units are affected.
Police closed Victoria Street to traffic until crews got the fire under control.
More than 12 hours later firefighters were still battling hot spots, and more than 30 hours later, crews were still on scene on Sunday.
Police say no one was hurt, however one firefighter needed medical attention after getting seperated from his colleague.
He was examined by paramedics and is going to be ok.
Early damages are estimated to be around $500,000.
