Man arrested after a car and two e-bikes were stolen from Guelph neighbourhood
A man has been arrested by police Guelph after two homes were broken into in the same neighbourhood.
Guelph Police Service said the first incident happened around 10 a.m. Jan. 3. Police were called to a home on Woolwich Street near Division Street.
The homeowner told police she had put her car keys on a table near her front door the evening before but when she woke up the next day her keys and the car were missing.
Security video from a neighbour showed a man approaching the owner’s home and then reversing out of the driveway in her car a short time later. Police said the car was later involved in a crash just outside of Guelph. A witness gave the driver a lift back into the city.
The second break-in happened on Monday. Police were called to a home in the same north-end neighbourhood where the owner told police two e-bikes were stolen.
Guelph identified the suspect and executed a warrant on Wednesday at an apartment close to the break-ins.
A 35-year-old man was arrested and charged with two counts of break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possessing stolen property under $5,000 and driving while suspended.
