There are allegations that a body found along the Grand River in Brantford may be connected to a drug deal gone bad.

Michael Lee Badregon, who is also known as ‘Uncle Mikey' lives in downtown Brantford. He says "I heard it was over a pound of weed…I think it's a drug deal gone bad. Somebody owed somebody some money, so you don't play the game with those guys."

However, he says he doesn't know who the victim is, or who could be responsible.

Brantford Police aren't discussing the motive at the moment, and have not yet identified the body. The black male, believed to be in his early 20s, was found Dec. 13 by a passerby.

The case is being treated as a homicide investigation, as police say there were obvious signs of trauma to the body.

Police vehicles and forensic officers remained at the scene near Ballantyne Drive at Spalding Drive on Tuesday, as they continued to gather evidence.

Roger Shmuir lives in the area and says police did remove a car parked near the scene, "and they took it to, I guess, an impound or whatever. A tow truck took it away and a couple of undercover officers were there."

Police aren't commenting on evidence, but will say that so far no one has been reported missing locally, so they are also looking outside the area.
