Some residents of a rooming house in the Preston area of Cambridge are displaced after a fire Friday night.
The fire broke out just before 8 p.m. at the building at the corner of Lowther and King Streets. The Hopper bar is on the main floor, and a rooming house on the second floor.
“When we arrived we had slight smoke showing. People had evacuated the building,” said Martin Mills, platoon chief with the Cambridge Fire Department.
“It was found that the fires were inside the walls, and in-between the first and second floors,” Mills continued.
At least eight people have been displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is helping to provide shelter to those who need it.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
Lowther Street South between King Street East and Queenston Road will be closed until Monday. Officials are concerned with the structural safety of the chimney.
There is no word on what caused the fire. No one was hurt.
