A short in a tractor engine is being blamed for a fire that killed two calves Wednesday morning on a farm near Floradale, north of Elmira.
A total of 50 firefighters were called to the Sandy Hills Drive property around 4:30 a.m. for a report of a tractor fire.
According to Woolwich Fire, the flames spread to a shed and barn, and took nearly three hours to extinguish.
The property owner was able to get 39 of his 41 calves out of the barn safely.
No humans were injured. Damage is estimated at $225,000.
