Many people are remembering Wayne Wettlaufer for all of his contributions to Waterloo Region.
The former MPP and current Regional Councillor passed away suddenly this morning at the age of 71.
Local politicians are remembering the 71-year-old as someone who was always engaged with the community.
Those who knew him weren’t aware of any health concerns. His brother sent out an e-mail to his colleagues this morning informing every one of the tragic loss.
Wettlaufer received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Guelph before beginning a long career in the insurance industry.
In 1995, Wetlauffer was elected as member of Provincial Parliament for Kitchener Centre representing the Progressive Conservatives.
He held that seat for eight years before losing in the 2003 election by nearly 2,000 votes to Liberal candidate John Milloy.
Wetlauffer tried for that same seat again this past fall, before being elected to Regional Council.
Wayne leaves behind a daughter and two grandsons. There is still no word on funeral arrangements.
