A 46-year-old man is charged with assault following an incident in the moments after a youth hockey game in Listowel.

Perth County OPP say the arrest stems from a bantam game between teams from Listowel and West Grey, which took place Sunday evening at the Listowel Memorial Arena.

According to police, several of the West Grey parents were upset about what was taking place on the ice.

After the game, one of those parents allegedly kicked a door, causing it to swing open and hit one of the Listowel coaches, knocking him to the ground.

An off-duty OPP officer then placed the parent under arrest.

The coach was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Bantam hockey is the level of minor hockey for players under the age of 15.
