That's a huge demographic shift -- and it's one the real estate sector is already starting to reflect.

From high-rise condos offering luxury living in a small space to developments full of sprawling, senior-targeted bungalows, builders are offering more types of age-friendly housing than ever before.

Of course, these lifestyles all come with big price tags and upheavals. Some seniors are avoiding those pitfalls by staying right where they are, with a few renovations.
