One person was pronounced dead at the scene following a crash on Highway 8 southeast of Goderich.

OPP, firefighters and paramedics responded to the intersection of Highway 8 and Falls Road shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

According to police, a Ford Explorer was travelling westbound on the highway when it crossed over to the wrong side of the road and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer.

Exactly what caused the Explorer to cross the centre line remains under investigation.

Its driver and sole occupant was killed in the crash, while the driver of the tractor-trailer was treated for minor injuries.

Highway 8 remained closed between Black’s Point Road and Porter’s Hill Line until shortly after 11 a.m.
