A crash on the eastbound lanes of the 401, east of Highway 6 South, caused a lengthy backup for commuters.  Emergency crews were called to the scene around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

At its worst, the backup was approximately 15 kilometres long, almost stretching back to the On Route gas stations in Cambridge.

Traffic began to thin around 8:00 a.m.

A second crash, on Highway 6 south of Morriston, added to the traffic snarl in the area.  Police responded to a crash between an SUV and a dump truck.  The two vehicles collided head-on, and another vehicle crashed into the rear of the dump truck.

All lanes of Highway 6 were closed between Leslie Road and Concession Road 14 until 9:30 a.m.
