A 35-year-old Cambridge man has been charged with mischief after a Toronto airport hotel had to be evacuated early Sunday morning.

Police and fire were called around 2 a.m. to the Holiday Inn on Dixon Road near Pearson airport. Police say a hotel guest interfered with a fire hose, which caused sprinkler systems to go off and a small electrical fire in the maintenance room. There is extensive water damage to three floors of the hotel.

Approximately 500 guests were bused out, and the Holiday Inn is making arrangements for guests due to arrive as the building is expected to be closed for several days.

No one was injured, but damage is estimated to be in the tens of thousands.
