A horse has died in a large barn fire near Woodstock.

Oxford County OPP say the fire broke out around 8:30 Saturday morning. It happened on Pattullo Avenue between Middletown Line and Oxford Road 14.

Neighbour Chris Riach had just finished morning chores on his farm when he noticed the fire.

“I could see the black smoke and flames billowing out of the end of the neighbour’s barn,” he said.

“Pretty much the entire building was demolished as a result of the fire,” said Constable Lisa Narancsik with the OPP.

“Unfortunately one horse was deceased as a result of the fire, but there were no other injuries so we were thankful for that,” Narancsik continued.

Police say three other horses in the barn were saved.

Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze.

“Oxford Centre, Norwich and Burgessville firefighters all showed up,” Riach said.

Pattullo Road was closed for several hours while police and fire investigated.

Police say they aren’t sure what caused the fire, but they don’t believe it to be suspicious.
