CAMBRIDGE, Ont. - A Hamilton woman has been arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder in connection with the death of Joseph Batten.
Madison Doyle, 18, was arrested with the assistance of the Hamilton Police Service.
At a court appearance on Tuesday, Doyle's case was moved to Superior Court for a possible bail hearing later in the week.
Crown prosecutor Karey Katzsch says "This woman was brought to the bail court today. She's charged with being accessory after the fact to second degree murder and there are a number of offenses in the Criminal Code where for the purposes of bail they have to be dealt with in our Superior Court."
Police say they are also seeking an arrest warrant for a male wanted in connection with the investigation.
Waterloo Regional Police Insp. Greg Lamport says "Additionally we're looking for a male and we are approaching the courts to get a warrant for arrest and we anticipate that to be out by the end of the day."
Joseph Batten, 22, died following an altercation outside the Masonic Temple in Cambridge around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning. The facility had been rented for a Christmas party.
An autopsy found he was stabbed. Lamport says "Following the post mortem it was concluded the cause of the death was due to multiple stab wounds."
Batten was a skilled martial artist, but was suffering from a training injury at the time of the altercation.
"The investigation is still continuing and anyone with information is still asked to contact police and the investigators will continue with the original information that they're following up on," Lamport says
