Const. Andrew Robson, a six year member of the force, has been charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance.

The arrest follows an investigation prompted by allegations that the officer acted inappropriately during the course of his duties as an officer.

Police received information on Nov. 16 that the officer "failed to properly process property that had been seized during an investigation into illegal drugs," according to a media release.

Robson was arrested while off duty and found to be in possession of marijuana believed to be linked to the drug investigation.

In a press release Waterloo Regional Police Chief Matthew Torigian says "When situations occur that require additional attention, members in our organization will continue to take decisive and timely action to ensure that the trust of the community is maintained."

Robson, who was assigned to Division # Patrol has been suspended from duty.

He was released on a promise to appear and is expected to be in court on Jan. 11, 2011.
