Officials say around 4:30 a.m., a group of people found a man lying in the street with severe head wounds at the intersection of Austin Drive and Hazel Street.

Investigation determined that the man was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Hazel Street. The driver did not remain at the scene.

The victim, who was pronounced dead the scene, has now been identified as 29-year-old Jordan Gillis of Waterloo.

Police say they’re continuing to search for the vehicle involved, which may be an SUV.

“There should be some noticeable damage to the vehicle,” police spokesperson Alana Holtom tells CTV News.

“We’re asking anyone who has seen a bright red vehicle with damage to the front bumper as well as the hood to come forward and contact police.”

Officers spent Monday canvassing the neighbourhood, looking for further information.
