Two Niagara teenagers are being treated for serious injuries after they fell down a sheer cliff while hiking on the escarpment in Grimsby.

Niagara Regional Police, Niagara Emergency Services and the Grimsby Fire Department responded to the call just after 7 p.m. Friday evening at the Beamer Conservation Area.

Police say a male and a female in their late teens were walking along the Bruce Trail when they strayed from the marked path onto a ledge that gave way, plunging them 20 metres to the rocks below.

Due to the steep terrain it took rescuers about an hour to get the pair out.

Both were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries to their legs, head, neck, and shoulders.
