LONDON, Ont. -- The woman who was behind the wheel of a car that crashed through the front doors of a London, Ont., Costco store -- killing a young girl and her unborn sister -- has been handed a suspended sentence.
A London judge also ruled Tuesday that Ruth Burger, 66, is banned from driving for five years, will spend three years on probation and must complete 240 hours of community service.
Burger's car reversed through the doors of store in July 2014 and hit a pregnant Danah McKinnon-Bozek, who had been shopping with her two daughters.
Addison Hall, 6, died as a result of the crash. McKinnon-Bozek underwent an emergency c-section and her newborn girl, Rhiannon McKinnon-Bozek, later died. Three-year-old Miah Bozek was also seriously hurt.
Burger was found guilty in June of dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing bodily harm after initially being charged with two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
Burger had claimed her foot became stuck under the brake pedal, forcing it downward on the gas and sending the car speeding towards the front doors of the store.
