Police say they have enough evidence to believe that the deaths of a Wellesley Township mother and daughter were intentional and premeditated, even though their remains have not been found.
“Based on the information that we have right now, we’re confident that the charges that Mr. Bauman faces are applicable,” Waterloo Regional Police Insp. Michael Haffner told the media Thursday.
Glenn Bauman is charged with first-degree murder and committing an indignity to a body in connection with the deaths of his common-law wife Linda Daniel and her 13-year-old daughter Cheyenne.
He was arrested last week in northwestern Alberta, and is now in custody in Ontario with his next court appearance scheduled for Friday.
The investigation has led police to the home Bauman and Daniel shared on Hessen Strasse near St. Clements.
On Wednesday, a search warrant was authorized giving investigators 30 days to search the property.
Police said Thursday that they had found “some evidence” at the site, but had yet to locate the remains of the Daniels.
According to police, the family moved to Hessen Strasse in 2006, and Bauman left in “late 2011.”
The last known whereabouts of Linda and Cheyenne Daniel date to July 2011.
It wasn’t until December 2015 that their disappearances were reported to police in Brantford, who in time notified Waterloo Regional Police.
It “wasn’t abnormal” for the Daniels to go long periods of time without being in touch with other family members, Haffner said, although the large gap in time makes the police investigation “extremely complex.”
As of 2011, Haffner said, Bauman was working as a truck driver while Linda Daniel was a housewife.
Thursday morning, a large blue tarp was visible at the back of the Hessen Strasse property. The tarp had not been there the previous day.
Police say they are considering the deaths an “isolated incident” and have no concern for public safety.
